Ellie’s vocals are at the heart of their sound, shifting effortlessly from delicate whispers to raw, emotional outbursts, giving each song its unique character.
What really sets Wolf Alice apart is their fearlessness in exploring different sounds and emotions. Their follow-up albums, Visions of a Life and Blue Weekend, have only solidified their reputation as a band that’s not afraid to push the boundaries of what alternative rock can be. Hole
Frontwoman: Courtney Love
We already referenced one beef between Gwen Stefani, therefore it’s only fitting we put Courtney on this list. Hole, fronted by the unapologetically raw and often controversial Love, was a major force in the 90s alternative rock scene, bringing a blend of grunge, punk, and riot-grrrl energy that was as fierce as it was vulnerable. Don’t get confused though Love was not a Riot-Grrrl artist.
Hole’s breakthrough album, Live Through This, dropped in 1994, just days after the tragic death of Love’s husband, Kurt Cobain. The album, with tracks like “Doll Parts” and “Violet,” captured the rage, pain, and chaos swirling around Love’s life at the time aligned with Kurt’s death. This album resonated with a generation looking for music that was brutally honest and emotionally charged and shared in the pain the scene felt at the time. Love’s powerful, sometimes guttural vocals, combined with the band’s raw guitar riffs and driving rhythms, made Live Through This an instant classic.
